Joan Onyemaechi, the former Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education and ex-member of the House of Representatives, has been released by her abductors.

Onyemaechi, known as Ada Anioma, regained her freedom on Friday night and has returned to Asaba, where she is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Initially, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N1 billion, but it remains unclear whether this amount was paid to secure her release.

Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed Onyemaechi’s release on Friday night but did not provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding her freedom.

Onyemaechi was kidnapped at gunpoint on July 30th from her church premises along DBS Road in Asaba. During the abduction, a police officer and her driver were killed, while others sustained gunshot injuries.
