FCT Minister Wike vows to continue shanty demolitions despite protests
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that his administration will persist with the demolition of illegal structures in the FCT, stating that no amount of protest will deter the efforts.
During a visit to the Ruga community along the Wuye axis in Abuja, Wike emphasized his commitment to restoring order and addressing urban planning violations. He mentioned that moving forward, his administration would engage in dialogue with the residents of shanties to devise lasting solutions that prevent the re-establishment of unauthorized communities.
Addressing a recent protest in which demonstrators labeled the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) as “land grabbers,” Wike dismissed the demonstration as a case of misplaced priorities. He stressed that the government’s actions are aimed at ensuring the city’s proper development and adherence to planning regulations.
