The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday expressed excitement over the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victory in the just-concluded Edo State governorship election.

The FEC meeting, presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, extended its congratulations to the people of Edo, especially the APC members, for their “fantastic outing” in Saturday’s election.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, highlighted the Council’s positive sentiment at the start of the meeting.

He commended President Tinubu for his commitment to free and fair elections, emphasizing that the APC’s victory, which had eluded the party for over eight years, was a reflection of the President’s dedication to upholding democratic principles.

Akume noted that the result of the election serves as proof of the public’s trust in Tinubu’s administration and his vision for Nigeria.

According to the SGF, “We want to use this opportunity, Mr. Chairman, to congratulate the people of Edo States, particularly the APC family, properly guided by the … father of the APC, in their fantastic outing, recording a huge victory, which had eluded the APC for over eight years.

“The election has been adjudged to be free and fair and that is what Mr. President has always stood for. We want to thank you, Mr. President, for being committed to the electoral process and ethos of democracy.

“Once again, we thank our family members of the APC from Edo state for this wonderful showing.

Also, Council observed a minute of silence in honour of a deceased former member, Mrs Salome Audu Jankada, who died on the 27th of August, 2024.

Mrs Audu-Jankada served as Minister of Women Affairs and Youth Development during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

“Mr. Chairman, we want to announce the demise of a former member of the Federal Executive Council, Mrs. Salome Audu Jankada. Mr Salomi Audu Jankada was a member of the Federal Executive Council under the government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, she was Minister Of Women Affairs and Youth Development.

“She passed on on August 27, 2024. In line with our tradition, Mr. Chairman, may I please request Council members to rise and observe a minute silence in honour of the former Federal Executive Council member”, he said.
