A final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, has been gruesomely murdered and dismembered by her boyfriend, whom she met on social media.
According to reports, Yetunde went missing on Monday, February 10, 2025, after attending a naming ceremony. She received a call from a friend, left her food to answer it, and never returned.
How Yetunde Was Killed
A source close to the investigation revealed that her family reported her missing at the Oja Oba Police Station in Ilorin on Tuesday. The police tracked her last call to a suspect living in the Offa Garage District.
“The suspect initially denied knowing her whereabouts, but when the police searched his house, he confessed that she had died from an asthma attack. However, further investigation led to a shocking discovery—the victim’s body had been dismembered and stored in a bowl, along with tools used for the act,” the source disclosed.
Evidence found in the suspect’s house suggests this might not be his first crime, as a table in his room appeared to have tools specifically used for body dismemberment.
Police Investigation
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect. Spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
A Disturbing Pattern
Yetunde’s murder is the latest in a series of similar incidents involving young women killed by their partners.
Earlier this year, 32-year-old Timilehin Ajayi was arrested for allegedly killing and beheading his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu.
In Akwa Ibom, police are investigating the brutal murder of makeup artist Emrich Effanga, who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Ndifreke.
The rising cases of such killings have raised concerns over the safety of young women, especially in relationships formed through social media.
