Flood sweeps away motorcyclist in Lagos, body discovered in Ogun

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 60-year-old motorcyclist, Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, who was swept away by floodwaters during a heavy downpour along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in the Alakuko area of Lagos.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident was said to have occurred at about 4 p.m. on May 20, 2025.
According to the statement, Adeniran lost control of his motorcycle amid the heavy rainfall and was dragged by the raging floodwaters.
“His motorcycle was eventually located around 6 p.m. the same day, downstream from where the incident occurred,” the statement read.
However, the search for his body continued until the following morning when it was recovered at about 9 a.m. on May 21 at the Obasanjo River in Ota, Ogun State.
Police detectives immediately visited both the scene of the incident and the recovery site to gather evidence, while photographs of the deceased were taken for investigative records.
The Command disclosed that the body has since been deposited at a public morgue for autopsy, adding that investigations are ongoing.
The police authorities extended their condolences to the bereaved family, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant, especially during severe weather conditions.
