Football rivalry turns bloody as Arsenal supporter kills Man United fan
A football rivalry escalated into tragedy in Kyobugombe Trading Centre, Western Uganda, as 22-year-old Manchester United fan Benjamin Okello died following an argument with an Arsenal supporter on Sunday, October 27.
The altercation stemmed from a heated exchange over Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, as reported by The Daily Monitor.
The clash began when Okello celebrated Liverpool’s late equalizing goal by Mo Salah, playfully throwing popcorn at an Arsenal fan, identified only as Onan. Okello was rushed to Bukinda Health Centre and later transferred to Rugarama Regional Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident was confirmed by Kaharo Sub County Chairperson, Edmond Tumwesigye, and Kabale District Police Commander, Joseph Bakaleke, who revealed that an active police manhunt is underway for the suspect, Onan, reportedly known for criminal behavior in the area. Okello’s family is demanding justice as authorities urge the public to come forward with any information to aid in the investigation.
