Former Big Brother Naija star and two-time Nigerian high jump champion, Mike Edwards, has made a successful transition into the world of professional boxing, securing a victory in his debut match against Jake Cornish.

The bout, held at the Dublin Arena on Saturday, saw Edwards go the distance, with all rounds completed before the judges unanimously declared him the winner.

Edwards, who surprised many by announcing his shift from athletics to professional boxing in April, competed in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight division.

The division is organized by English social media personality and Nigerian-born professional boxer, Olajide Williams, better known as KSI.

Edwards’ victory marks a promising start to his new career in boxing, showcasing his versatility and determination to succeed in yet another sport.

In a post on X.com on Saturday, Misfits Boxing wrote, “An impressive MFB debut for #aireyys as he gets the decision victory. Mike Edwards gets his first #MisfitsBoxing win.”

News360 Nigeria reported in April that Edwards reiterated his decision to join the cruiserweight division of Misfits Boxing, marking a significant departure from his track and field roots.

He said, “Breaking News: Excited to announce my entry into the world of professional boxing! Thrilled to join the Cruiserweight division roster on #MisfitsBoxing. Get ready for an electrifying debut as I step into the ring to showcase my skills and determination.”
