Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson and renowned political strategist, has passed away at the age of 72. His death was confirmed on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Okupe played a significant role in Nigerian politics, serving as a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan and later as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign.

However, in December 2022, he resigned from Obi’s campaign after being convicted of money laundering. Following the 2023 general elections, Okupe left the Labour Party and later aligned himself with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, becoming an outspoken supporter.

Throughout his political career, Okupe was often at the center of national debates and legal battles. Despite controversies, he remained actively engaged in political discussions until his passing.
