Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has raised an alarm over potential violence being planned by suspected gunmen across the 23 local government headquarters in the state.

During the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected local government chairpersons at the government house in Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized the need for peaceful governance amidst lingering tensions from the recent local government elections.

Fubara cautioned the chairpersons to be aware of possible confrontations as they assume their duties on Monday, stating, “I’m aware that they are mobilizing 20 people per unit to confront you tomorrow at your local government headquarters. If they come with violence, please avoid them. The peace of this state is too important to us.”

The governor declared that any controversy surrounding the elections has now been resolved and urged the officials to focus on serving the people without resorting to violence.

“Everyone knows what they are planning, but I urge you to follow my approach. If you are patient and calculative, you will always prevail at the right time. We have made promises to our people, and we will lead them to the Promised Land.”
