Gov Dauda names Gumi as acting Chairman of Security Trust Fund
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has appointed retired Brigadier General Abdulkadir Gumi as the acting chairman of the Security Trust Fund Board of Trustees.
The announcement was made public in a formal statement released by Abubakar Nakwada, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, on Sunday in Gusau.
This appointment comes at a critical time as the state grapples with ongoing security challenges. Brigadier General Gumi’s extensive military experience is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the state’s security framework.
Governor Lawal’s decision to appoint Gumi underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing security and protecting the lives and property of Zamfara State residents. The Security Trust Fund is a crucial component in the state’s efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminal activity.
The appointment of Brigadier General Gumi, known for his dedication and service, is seen as a strategic move to bring about greater effectiveness in the management and utilization of resources aimed at improving security across Zamfara.

Mr Nakwada said: “The appointment takes immediate effect.”
Mr Gumi is the brother of Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, a prominent Islamic figure often embroiled in controversy.
He has military having previously served as Director of Legal Services in the Nigerian Army.
Mr Gumi’s appointment followed the resignation of the former Inspector-General of Police, M.D. Abubakar (rtd), the pioneer board chairman of the fund.
The fund was established by Mr Lawal shortly after
assuming office to mobilise resources to support security agencies in the fight against banditry and kidnapping in Zamfara.
Mr Nakwada said Mr Lawal approved Mr Gumi’s appointment based on his credentials as well as the quality leadership he exhibited while in active military service.
According to him, Mr Lawal is confident that under Mr Gumi’s leadership, the Security Trust Fund Board of Trustees will realise its central mission of mobilising resources to strengthen the state security architecture.
“His Excellency extends his best wishes to Brig.-Gen. Abubakar Gumi (rtd) in his new role and urges all relevant stakeholders to fully support him in realising the goals of the Board.
“The Board is expected to now begin delivering on its mandate to strengthen the security framework and support our security forces in the fight against banditry and other criminalities in all parts of Zamfara state,” Mr Nakwada said.
