Gov Makinde presents instruments of office to new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has formally presented the instruments of office to Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, the newly crowned Alaafin of Oyo.
The ceremony, which marked the official recognition of Oba Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
Speaking at the event, held at the historic Oyo Palace, Governor Makinde emphasized the significance of the Alaafin’s role in preserving the cultural heritage and fostering unity among the Yoruba people.
He expressed confidence in Oba Owoade’s ability to lead with wisdom and promote peace within the kingdom and beyond.
The governor also urged the monarch to work closely with the state government to drive socio-economic development in the region.
Oba Owoade, in his acceptance speech, pledged to uphold the legacy of his predecessors and serve the people of Oyo with dedication and integrity.
He called for cooperation among traditional leaders, government officials, and residents to ensure the prosperity of the Oyo Kingdom.
The presentation of instruments of office included the staff of authority, crown, and other regalia symbolizing the monarch’s ascension to the throne.
Traditional rulers, government officials, and dignitaries from across the state attended the ceremony, which was celebrated with cultural displays and traditional rites.
The new Alaafin succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, whose reign spanned over five decades and was marked by significant contributions to the cultural and political prominence of Oyo.
