Gov Okpebholo condemns lynching of Northern travellers in Edo, orders investigation

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has condemned the brutal mob attack and killing of some travellers accused of being kidnappers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the victims, who were hunters traveling for Sallah, were intercepted by a mob that found dane guns in their vehicle. Assuming them to be kidnappers, the mob set them ablaze. A viral video of the attack has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians criticizing the rise of jungle justice in the country.
Speaking in Uromi through the Chief Security Officer of Government House, SP Solomon Osaghale, Governor Okpebholo described the act as barbaric and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“I can assure you that the people involved in this unprovoked attack will not go scot-free, as His Excellency has directed the Commissioner of Police to launch a full-scale investigation into the matter. As I speak now, over four persons have been arrested for their involvement in this ugly incident,” Osaghale stated.
The governor warned that no individual has the right to take another’s life and called for calm, assuring the Hausa community in Uromi of their safety. He confirmed that security operatives have been deployed to restore peace and normalcy.
