Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has distributed 7,158 goats to 2,386 women as part of the state’s Livestock Fattening Programme, aimed at promoting economic empowerment and reducing poverty.

During the launch of the program’s second phase, held under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, explained that the initiative targets vulnerable groups, equipping women from all 44 local government areas with livestock to foster entrepreneurship.

Each beneficiary received three goats, with future phases of the program set to distribute 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youths.

Governor Yusuf emphasized his administration’s commitment to innovative, inclusive programs designed to alleviate poverty and empower communities. He urged beneficiaries to handle the livestock responsibly, stressing accountability to ensure the program’s success and long-term impact.

“This initiative is not merely about distributing livestock but creating a sustainable economic model that uplifts communities and reduces reliance on government assistance,” the governor stated.

“This groundbreaking initiative, worth N2.3 billion, underscores the administration’s focus on sustainable development and empowering communities to drive economic growth from the grassroots.

“By integrating women and youth into the agricultural value chain, the program aims to enhance household income and reduce dependency on government aid.”
