Gov. Zulum names new Accountant General

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has approved the appointment of Bunu Bukar as the new Accountant General of the state.
The announcement was made in Maiduguri on Monday through a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr. Dauda Iliya.
According to the statement, the appointment is in line with Section 208, Subsection 2(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers the governor to make such decisions.
Bunu Bukar is expected to assume office on May 8, 2025, succeeding the current Accountant General, Alhaji Bura Usman, who will be retiring on the same date.
Before this appointment, Bukar held the position of Director of Treasury Operations in the Office of the Accountant General under the Borno State Ministry of Finance.
A respected financial professional, Bukar is a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (FANAN) and a registered member of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. He also holds an MBA in Finance, a postgraduate diploma in Accountancy, alongside other relevant academic and professional qualifications.
The statement highlighted that Bukar comes into the new role with over 16 years of banking experience and 13 years of dedicated public service.
Governor Zulum congratulated Bukar on the appointment and urged him to uphold professionalism, transparency, financial integrity, and accountability in managing the state’s finances.
He also extended appreciation to the outgoing Accountant General, Bura Usman, for his dedicated service and valuable contributions to the growth and stability of Borno State.
