Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General Azuta-Mbata Faces Seven-Day Resignation Ultimatum
The Rivers State Restoration Movement (RRM) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to John Azuta-Mbata, the newly-elected President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, demanding his resignation.
The ultimatum, announced on Tuesday, January 13, comes barely 72 hours after Azuta-Mbata, an Ikwerre-born former lawmaker, assumed the leadership of the prominent Igbo socio-political organization.
In a statement signed by RRM’s Director-General Johnson Georgewill and Secretary Sarina Akpata, the group described Azuta-Mbata’s election as “disturbing and disgraceful.” They also accused the Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, of orchestrating his emergence to perpetrate alleged injustices against the people.
“One begins to wonder what wrong Rivers people have done to deserve this humiliation from Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s administration.
“Was it a crime that in the interest of equity, fairness, and justice, former Governor Nyesom Wike and leader of Rivers State politics, on the premise of the political bond and love that spans over 50 years between the Ijaw and Ikwerre, chose Fubara as governor to represent the riverine interest?” the group queried.
