GTBank confirms attempted website domain compromise, assures customers of safety
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has confirmed an attempted compromise of its website domain, following reports that hackers had allegedly seized and cloned the bank’s site to intercept customer data.
In a statement released on Thursday, the bank addressed the issue, describing it as an “isolated incident” and assuring customers that their data and transactions remain secure.
GTBank emphasized that the situation was swiftly managed and that all necessary measures have been taken to safeguard the bank’s digital infrastructure.
The bank also reassured its customers that its core systems and mobile banking platforms remain unaffected by the attempted breach.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to reports in the media alleging that hackers have seized the Bank’s website, cloned it, and intercepted customer data.
“While there was an isolated incident of an attempt to compromise our website domain, we would like to assure all our customers and Stakeholders that the Bank’s website has not been cloned and that we do not store customer information on our website, and as such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data.
“We would like to assure all our Customers and Stakeholders that the Bank’s website has not been cloned.
“Our dedicated team of Information Security Experts are currently working round the clock to restore domain settings,” the statement added.
“We urge all our Customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data.”
