Guardiola to faces Chelsea without key players

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola may have to face Chelsea without his key player Rodri as the new 2024/25 Premier League season kicks off on Sunday.

City is set to travel to Stamford Bridge for the opening weekend, taking on Enzo Maresca’s side.

Rodri, who played a pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory in Germany this summer, was granted extended time off and did not participate in City’s pre-season.

He also missed the Community Shield win against Manchester United last Saturday.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Rodri is expected to return to the Etihad on Wednesday, possibly due to an injury sustained in the Euro final against England.

Given the short time frame to regain match fitness, it is unlikely that the defensive midfielder will start against Chelsea.

Instead, his return to the starting lineup might be more feasible for the match against Ipswich Town on August 24.
