Gunmen abduct Police orderly assigned to Rivers monarch
A police orderly assigned to HRH Cornwell Ihunwo, the supreme monarch of the Rumu-Elechi community in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, has been kidnapped.
Godstime Ihunwo, an executive member of the Diobu Vigilante and the Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, said he received a call about the kidnapping at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
According to Ihunwo, the gunmen originally intended to abduct the traditional ruler but instead took the police orderly and the driver’s car.
Upon receiving the news, Ihunwo rushed to the monarch’s residence in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt, where Chief Cornwell Ihunwo confirmed the incident.
“I received a call about the abduction at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024,” Ihunwo recounted. “I hurried to his house on Eagle Island, where Chief Cornwell informed me that his driver and police orderly had been kidnapped.”
“We strongly condemn the attempted abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident,” he added.
The Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident. She stated that the case had been transferred to the Octopus Strike Force Police unit for further investigation.
