Gunmen assassinate market chairman in Enugu

In a tragic incident, the Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA) in Enugu, Mr. Stephen Aniagu, was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

The attack took place at around 7 pm as he was leaving the market after business hours.

Eyewitnesses reported that Mr. Aniagu was ambushed and shot multiple times near Moses Ogbodo Junction, close to Topland Market in the Amaechi area of Enugu South Local Government.

His body was found riddled with bullets, and his car was stolen by the assailants.

One witness described the scene: “We heard gunshots and ran for safety. When we came out, we saw his lifeless body and realized his car was missing.”

The motive for the assassination remains unclear, and the incident has shocked the local market community. Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the killing.
