Gunmen kill police inspector, abduct two Chinese nationals in Cross River
A tragic attack unfolded on Thursday evening at Quarry Camp in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River, where gunmen reportedly shot and killed a police inspector and abducted two Chinese nationals.
The assault, which has shaken the local community, also saw the abduction of a Nigerian citizen, according to the Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 6, SP Nelson Okpabi.
In a statement released on Friday in Calabar, Okpabi confirmed that the assailants, dressed in military camouflage, seized the officer’s AK-47 rifle before fleeing. The attackers gained access to the quarry after a security lapse occurred when a worker inadvertently allowed them entry.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 6, Jonathan Towuru, has mandated a comprehensive search operation for the perpetrators, vowing that the attackers will be apprehended and brought to justice.
“The Police hereby appealed to the people to be on the lookout and provide any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” he stated. (NAN)
