Gunshots Near Donald Trump: Ex President safe after “protective incident” at Golf Course
Former President Donald Trump is reported safe after gunshots were fired in his vicinity on Sunday, as confirmed by his campaign communications director, Steven Cheung.
Cheung stated that “President Trump is safe,” but did not provide further details.
The US Secret Service is investigating the incident, which occurred shortly before 14:00 EST (19:00 BST), and described it as a “protective incident” involving the former president. While more details have been sought, both the Trump campaign and Secret Service remain tight-lipped.
The incident took place at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where, according to a post on X by Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr, shots were fired. He confirmed that a suspect had been apprehended.
This near-miss comes almost two months after an attempted assassination of Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman struck his ear.
The White House confirmed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation and expressed relief at the news of Trump’s safety. The White House stated that they would continue to receive updates on the matter.
Further details are awaited from the West Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, with authorities continuing to investigate.
