Heavy security as Bauchi LG election holds today
As Bauchi State prepares for its local government council elections scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2024, the State Police Command has implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure a safe and orderly voting process.
According to a statement from SP Mohammed Wakil, the command has deployed personnel to 5,013 polling units across the state and collaborated with other security agencies to maintain public order.
To prevent disruptions and ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, vehicular movement will be restricted from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the election. Exceptions will be made for essential services, including medical personnel, journalists, and emergency responders, to ensure their operations are not hindered.
“While the Command acknowledges the inconvenience these measures may cause, all eligible voters should comply with the law and participate in the election without fear or intimidation.”
The statement added that any individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election will face decisive action.
Wakil stated further that Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Muhammad has appealed to parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders, and guardians to discourage their wards and followers from engaging in any disturbances before, during, or after the election.
He issued a stern warning to all criminal elements in the state to cease any activities that threaten public safety, stating that law enforcement agencies will not hesitate to confront and neutralise violators in accordance with the law.
