Jailed Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein undergoes emergency heart surgery

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer currently serving a rape sentence at Rikers Island prison, has undergone emergency heart surgery.

The 72-year-old was rushed from the prison to Bellevue Hospital in New York on Monday, September 9, 2024.

Weinstein underwent pericardiocentesis, a procedure to remove fluid from around the heart and lungs. His condition required urgent medical attention, leading to his transfer from prison to the hospital for treatment.

The former filmmaker’s lawyer, Craig Rothfeld stated that “he is in pain from the procedure and still dealing with several other serious health problems which need to be addressed.”

Weinstein is serving a 23-year sentence in New York, following a sexual assault conviction in Los Angeles in 2020.

The former filmmaker was accused of sexual misconduct by more than 90 women. He, however, denied any wrongdoing.
