Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a significant upward review of the monthly allowance paid to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state, raising it from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.

The increment will take effect from August 1, 2025.

Governor Eno announced the new allowance package during the second day of the state delivery meeting held on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.

He explained that the decision was made to complement the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance for corps members and to help them better meet their essential needs while serving in the state.

“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” the governor stated.

This development comes shortly after the governor’s approval for the reconstruction of the NYSC orientation camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area, part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of corps members.

Established in 1973, the NYSC scheme is a compulsory one-year national service programme for Nigerian graduates under the age of 30, aimed at promoting national unity and integration.
