June 12: FG declares Thursday Public Holiday to mark 2025 Democracy Day

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, 12th June, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Sunday through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Congratulating Nigerians on the occasion of 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, Tunji-Ojo described June 12 as a symbol of the country’s historic journey towards building a nation anchored on truth, justice, peace, and a secure future.
He said, “June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign and peace is sustained and our future assured. The last 26 years tell the story of our resilience, strength and courage and a hope renewed than ever.”
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to uphold the universal values of democracy founded on the freely expressed will of the people in shaping the country’s political, economic, social and cultural systems.
