The Anambra State government has intensified its fight against fake native doctors and criminal activities by sealing a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area.
The shrine, reportedly run by Ekene Igboegbueze, a self-proclaimed native doctor who lured people with promises of sudden wealth, was shut down after multiple complaints from residents.
Prince Ken Emeakai, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, confirmed that the action was taken based on reports from the local community.
“Igboegbueze’s business is illegal under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws,” Emeakai stated, adding that properties acquired through the illicit trade have also been sealed.
He further disclosed that items found in the shrine would undergo forensic examination, after which the government would decide on the next steps.
Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, cautioned youths against patronizing fake native doctors and pastors, blaming them for promoting a “get-rich-quick” mentality in the state.
“Our mandate is to sanitize Anambra, and we are committed to that. Anything contributing to the desecration of the state or aiding criminal activities will be eradicated,” he assured.
He advised young people to focus on legal means of livelihood to avoid getting into trouble with the law.
