JUST IN: Iran fired over 180 missiles at Israel – Israeli military

The Israeli military confirmed that approximately 180 missiles were fired at the country from Iran on Tuesday.

The barrage, believed to be retaliation for the killings of Iran-backed militant leaders, sent Israelis into shelters as sirens blared across the country.

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) systems successfully intercepted a large number of the missiles, which targeted various parts of the country, including central Israel and Jerusalem, where explosions were heard.

Despite the scale of the attack, casualties were minimal, with reports of only two people suffering minor injuries from shrapnel.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps stated that the missile attack was a direct response to Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and the recent death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a bombing in Tehran, widely attributed to Israel.

The attack comes just months after Iran’s earlier missile and drone strike in April, further escalating the conflict. International reactions have been swift, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calling for an immediate ceasefire and warning against the growing conflict in the Middle East.

Airspace across Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq was closed following the missile strike, while the U.S. moved quickly to provide defensive support, with President Joe Biden authorizing military assistance to protect Israel.

The situation remains tense as Israel and its allies brace for further escalations in the region.
