Kano LG Poll: Confusion as another orders KANSIEC to hold elections

A Kano State High Court has permitted the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to conduct local government elections on October 26, overriding a prior Federal High Court ruling that questioned the legality of the commission’s composition.

Justice Sanusi Ma’aji ruled on Friday, affirming KANSIEC’s constitutional mandate to manage local elections across Kano’s 44 local government areas. He also instructed security agencies to ensure a secure voting environment for citizens on election day.

This decision follows an earlier ruling by Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court, which halted the elections over allegations that the KANSIEC chairman was a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), raising impartiality concerns. However, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dismissed this order, confirming the elections would proceed as planned.
