Katsina Police arrest man over alleged abduction of 6-year-old boy
The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old man, Halilu Yusuf, in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a six-year-old boy.
The arrest was confirmed by the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Katsina.
According to ASP Aliyu, Yusuf was detained on August 17 at approximately 2 p.m. after police received credible intelligence.
The suspect, hailing from Gezawa, near Shinkafi village, is accused of kidnapping the young boy, who is the son of his mentor, from Kofar-Sauri quarters.
Yusuf allegedly lured the child away and subsequently demanded a ransom of N2 million from the boy’s father.
Aliyu revealed that the suspect slept with the boy in his room, after which, he took him to another place for safe keeping, not knowing that police operatives were trailing him.
The police spokesman explained that the suspect made an anonymous phone call and informed the father of his son’s abduction.
“Upon receipt of the report, the command quickly mobilised the operatives led by the DPO GRA, Katsina and swung into action.
“The team successfully traced and arrested the suspect, and the victim was rescued unhurt,” he said.
He further revealed that during investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence.
Aliyu said that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
