Kogi housewife impregnated by husband’s houseboy throws newborn baby into gutter

A housewife identified as Barkisu Sulaiman has been arrested in the Karaworo-Lokoja area for reportedly discarding her newborn baby in a gutter.

The incident came to light after a close friend of Barkisu, from the Kabawa area, tipped off local residents.

According to sources, the friend, deeply disturbed by the baby’s abandonment, confided in an elderly man in the Karaworo-Lokoja community. She revealed that Barkisu had previously disclosed being seven months pregnant by one of her husband’s servants, while her husband was unwell. The alleged father, now at large, had reportedly rejected the pregnancy and advised her to terminate it.

Following this revelation, locals confronted and arrested Barkisu. She allegedly confessed to throwing the one-day-old infant into the gutter out of guilt for cheating on her ill husband.

The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Paul Igweibuke, confirmed the arrest, stating that Barkisu is in custody and investigations are underway.
