Labour responds to FG’s N62,000 new minimum wage offer
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reiterated its refusal to accept the Federal Government’s proposed minimum wage of N62,000.
Joe Ajaero, the NLC President, reiterated the union’s firm stance on a minimum wage of N250,000, showing no willingness to compromise.
The ongoing negotiations between the government and the NLC have yet to yield a breakthrough, as both parties remain entrenched in their positions, despite the expiration of the current minimum wage in April 2024.

At an award ceremony in Kano, hosted by the National Association of Medical and Health Workers, NLC President Joe Ajaero (represented by General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja) honored National President Kabiru Ado Munibur and two other national executives. Ajaero expressed concerns about the severe economic hardships and soaring inflation in Nigeria, stating that these conditions are unbearable for workers and unsustainable for the nation’s economy.
Ajaero reaffirmed the NLC’s steadfast dedication to securing a just and equitable wage that guarantees a decent standard of living for Nigeria’s workforce.
