Lagos Assembly Power Tussle: Meranda has resigned, says Obasa

Mudashiru Obasa, the embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has claimed that Mojisola Meranda, who was sworn in as his replacement, has resigned from the position.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV on Thursday evening, Obasa insisted that he remains the Speaker despite being removed by his colleagues. He alleged that during a meeting with Lagos APC leaders in Marina, Meranda publicly announced her resignation.
Commenting on the withdrawal of Meranda’s security aides while his own were reinstated, Obasa said, “When my security was withdrawn without my consent, did I complain? At the Marina meeting, Meranda herself said she had stepped down. When you resign, the paraphernalia of office is removed.”
He maintained that his removal by 36 out of the 40 lawmakers in the House was invalid. “I have never been removed. I am not against removal, but it must follow the rules of the House and the Constitution,” he stated.
Earlier on Thursday, Obasa arrived at the Assembly under tight security and presided over a plenary session with only four lawmakers reportedly in attendance.
