Wanted suspect, Wasiu Akinwande

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, a man described as the most notorious and vicious hired killer in the state in recent times.

The 44-year-old suspect was apprehended during a carefully coordinated tactical operation tagged ‘Silence, Speed and Surprise’ at his hideout in the Agbado area of Ogun State.

According to a statement released by the state command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, Akinwande had for years terrorised Mushin and its environs. He was eventually tracked to Ogun State after several failed attempts to capture him in Lagos.

“His arrest marks a huge success in the ongoing fight against violent crimes threatening the safety and security of residents of Lagos State,” Hundeyin stated.

During the operation, police recovered a significant cache of arms and incriminating materials from his residence.

Items retrieved included two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, 57 live cartridges, 70 rounds of 5.56 live ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to different individuals.

Akinwande was reportedly the leader of several deadly gangs responsible for armed robberies, murders, cult-related killings, and kidnappings over the past decade.

The police revealed that four families have already identified him as the man behind the killings of their loved ones.

The Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take charge of an expanded investigation to apprehend other suspects linked to the killings.

Akinwande is currently in custody under tight security and, according to the police, will face the full consequences of his crimes.
