Lawmaker dies after accidentally sh00ting self

Gurpreet Gogi, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Indian Legislative Assembly, tragically passed away on Friday night following an accidental firearm discharge at his residence in Punjab.

According to family accounts, the incident occurred around midnight when Gogi was reportedly handling a gun, which accidentally discharged, causing a fatal head injury. He was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is currently at the hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jaskaran Singh Teja stated, “Preliminary reports suggest it was an accidental discharge. The exact details will be determined after the post-mortem examination.”

Gogi, who joined AAP in 2022, was a popular leader in Ludhiana. His notable victory over a two-time Congress MLA had cemented his reputation as a rising political figure in the state. His sudden demise has left supporters and colleagues devastated.

The police have launched an investigation to rule out any foul play, interviewing family members and examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
