Liam Delap officially joins Chelsea from Ipswich

Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the acquisition of England Under-21 striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a transfer reportedly valued at £30 million.
The 22-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract with the Blues, tying him to Stamford Bridge until June 2031.
Delap’s decision to join Chelsea came despite receiving over half a dozen offers during the summer window. His choice follows a standout campaign in the Premier League with Ipswich Town, where he netted 12 goals and earned a nomination for the Young Player of the Year award.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Delap said, “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach. It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”
Delap began his career at Derby County’s academy before moving to Manchester City in 2019. There, he played under current Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca in the Elite Development Squad and made a strong impression, scoring 24 goals in 20 Premier League 2 games.
He made his senior debut for City in the League Cup and featured in the Premier League before going out on loan to Stoke City, Preston North End, and Hull City.
He joined Ipswich Town for the 2024/25 season and made 37 appearances.
Delap has also been a regular presence in England’s youth setups, most recently appearing for the Under-21s in March.
