Liverpool goalie, Alisson, ready for six-week injury break
The 32-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker sustained an injury during last weekend’s narrow 1-0 win against Crystal Palace, leaving the pitch late in the second half.
According to reports from the British press, medical tests have indicated that Alisson is unlikely to recover in time to play until after the upcoming international break.
If this timeline holds true, his earliest return could be for the match against Southampton on November 24.
In the meantime, Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders are set to face significant challenges, with upcoming fixtures against Chelsea on October 20 and Arsenal the following week.
They will also compete in the Champions League against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen in their next two matches.
Caoimhin Kelleher, who missed the match against Palace due to illness, is expected to step in as the starting goalkeeper, a role he filled last season when Alisson was sidelined with a different hamstring injury.
Following the victory over Crystal Palace, Slot acknowledged that his first-choice goalkeeper may be facing a lengthy absence from the pitch.
“We have to wait and see but it will be a few weeks for him to be back. I think it is, yes (his hamstring),” he said.
“He’s clearly our number one, he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he gets injured, not only for him but us as a team.”
Liverpool have 18 points from seven Premier League matches — one more than defending champions Manchester City and Arsenal.
