Tragedy struck in the Umuomei community of Obingwa Local Government Area, Abia State, as a man identified as Ogeoma Ogbonna reportedly beheaded his father, Azubuike Ogbonna.

According to reports, Ogeoma, who is a palm cutter, carried out the gruesome act and later buried his father’s severed head in a shallow grave within their compound. Neighbors were drawn to the scene after the incident unfolded, discovering Azubuike’s body lying in a pool of blood.

Community members revealed that Ogeoma had shown signs of mental instability and often threatened to harm others. They added that he had allegedly threatened to kill his father shortly before committing the act.

A local resident said:
“Ogeoma has been showing signs of mental illness. He was always threatening to harm people, but no one expected him to kill his father. After the incident, he even showed people where he buried the head.”

As of the time of this report, efforts to get a response from the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, have been unsuccessful.
