Manchester City midfielder Rodri is set to miss the rest of the season following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear sustained during Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

The injury was confirmed after tests on Monday, revealing the damage to his right knee.

Rodri, a key player for both club and country, was forced off the field after just 21 minutes in his first start of the season.

The injury came as a result of two heavy tackles from Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Thomas Partey. The Spanish international, who is also a Ballon d’Or contender, is expected to undergo surgery in Barcelona, according to ESPN.

This marks the most significant injury setback of Rodri’s career, as he has only missed eight matches prior due to injury.

Despite the 2-2 draw, Manchester City remains top of the Premier League table with 13 points, though it was their first time dropping points this season.

Meanwhile, North Londoners are also unbeaten sitting in 4th with 11 points.
