Many feared injured as Mechanic on test collides with passenger bus in Calabar

Several people were injured in Calabar on Sunday following a serious auto crash involving a Lexus vehicle and a mini bus at the notorious Diamond Junction, along the Navy Barracks axis of the highway.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of the Lexus, reportedly a mechanic, was test-driving the car after carrying out repairs when the accident occurred.
In an attempt to turn off the highway into the Navy Barracks, the mechanic is said to have driven directly into the path of an oncoming mini bus.
The heavy collision left both vehicles severely damaged and caused panic in the area.
While no fatalities was recorded at the time of this report, many passengers and both drivers sustained serious injuries and were quickly rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency care.
News360 Nigeria reports that the incident comes just weeks after a tragic accident at the same junction claimed the life of a power biker, sparking fresh concerns about the safety of the intersection.
Residents and road users have renewed calls for the installation of traffic lights and other control measures at the increasingly dangerous Diamond Junction to prevent further accidents.
The residents called on relevant authorities, particularly traffic management officials, to prioritise swift action and enforce improved safety measures on the route.
