Mbappe shines as Real Madrid triumphs over Getafe to close gap on Barcelona
Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Getafe, moving to second place in La Liga and closing the gap on leaders Barcelona to just one point. Kylian Mbappe, who has faced criticism for recent performances, found the net after Jude Bellingham opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
Getafe’s defensive approach held firm until Antonio Rudiger won a penalty, which Bellingham converted to give Madrid the lead. Mbappe doubled the advantage with a curling strike from the left flank, marking his eighth league goal of the season. Despite missing several chances, including a close-range effort in stoppage time, Mbappe’s performance was pivotal.
Madrid’s victory comes as they maintain a game in hand over Barcelona and third-placed Atletico Madrid. The team will look to extend their winning streak when they face Athletic Bilbao midweek.
