Ebonyi State is one of Nigeria’s five southeastern states and one of the country’s smallest.

They have a population of approximately 2.9 million people who speak Igbo.

The state’s motto, “the salt of the nation,” comes from its abundance in salt deposits and agricultural resources.

Additional resources that support the state’s economy are lead, zinc, and limestone deposits.

Notable individuals who have achieved success in a variety of professions are also known to have been born in the State.

1. Dave Umahi

Dave Nweze Umahi is a politician from  Ebonyi State, he currently serves as the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Minister of Works.

He had previously held the positions of governor emeritus of Ebonyi State and representative for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District.

He had a degree in Civil Engineering from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1987.

He holds a national  title of Commander Of The Order Of The Niger (CON).

2. Nnenna Otti

The first female substantive vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (F.U.T.O.) is Nnenna Nnannaya Otti, a Nigerian professor.

She was born in Afikpo North, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, on November 15, 1958.

She graduated with a B. Agric. in soil science and a master’s degree in social science from the University of Nigeria, where she concentrated on soil biology and biochemistry.

At Catholic University, Leuven, she pursued her education further and graduated with a postgraduate diploma in irrigation engineering.

She also holds a PhD from Federal University of Technology Owerri in soil and environmental conservation.

3. Chacha Eke

Charity Eke, a Nigerian actress from Ebonyi State, is a well-known movie star. Her real name is Chacha Eke Faani.

She is the daughter of Ebonyi State’s Commissioner for Education and an accounting graduate of Ebonyi State University.

She rose to fame in 2012 after appearing in the film “The End Is Near.” She is also a producer and divorced.

4. Patoranking

Famously known as Patoranking, Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie is a reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter.

He is still an Ebonyi State native even though he was born and reared in Lagos. He has so far collaborated with other well-known musicians in the business and released a number of songs.

5. Sinach

Born on March 30, 1972, Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu, better known by his stage name Sinach, is a songwriter and gospel performer.

She is the first singer-songwriter to have 12 weeks straight at the top of the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart. She is an Ebonyi State native.

Her popular songs include “Way Maker,” “I know who I am,” “Great are you Lord,” “my Season,” and numerous others.

The passionate vocalist is married, has a child, and her songs have been nominated and awarded.

6. Angela Okorie

Born in Ishiagu, in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State, Angela Okorie is an award-winning Nollywood actress.

She was named the best supporting actress at the City People Entertainment Awards. It is also reported that she has performed in over 100 movies.

She completed her studies in public administration and theater arts at the University of Lagos and Lagos State University. She then entered Nollywood in 2009, having modeled for a soap opera for ten years, with “Sincerity” serving as her 2009 lead film.

7. Andy Chukwu

Andy Chukwu is an Ebonyi State-based Nollywood actor. He was born on May 14, 1959, and attended school in his hometown.

He began showcasing films such as Karishika, Witches, and Issakaba. He is from Obinagu in Ishiagu town, Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

8. Grace Amah

Another accomplished actress from Ebonyi State is Grace Amah. She was born in Ebuwana-Etta on February 23, 1986.

She completed her studies at the University of Lagos, where she earned a Bachelor of Creative Arts degree.

She has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies, including One Last Apple and Super Story.

9. Tekno

Tekno, whose real name is Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu, is a record producer, singer, and songwriter from Nigeria.

The Emmy-winning TV show Ted Lasso featured his song “Enjoy” as the theme song for one of its episodes (Season Three, Episode Seven).

Although he is from Ivo LGA in Ebonyi State, he was born on December 17, 1990, in Bauchi State. He started his career at a young age and has since collaborated with various record labels to make his music career more widely known.

10. Chita Agwu

Chita Agwu Johnson is an actress, television personality, and award-winning film producer. Through the movie “The Bet,” the celebrated actress gained widespread recognition.

She is also the creator of the television program on Dstv called Akanchawa. Her performances in “Perfect Wife” and “Thrive” also brought her recognition.

From Ebonyi State University, she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication.

She has so far acted in a number of films, such as Truth and Tidings, Thrive, Perfect Wife, Make Me A Widow, and many more. She has also won multiple accolades for excellence as a producer.
