Lionel Messi and Inter Miami have added another trophy to their collection, securing the Supporters’ Shield after a thrilling 3-2 victory over defending MLS Cup champions, Columbus Crew, on Wednesday night.

This trophy is awarded annually to the team with the best regular-season record in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Messi, who scored twice in the final minutes of the first half, now holds an impressive 46 major trophies for club and country, the most by any men’s soccer player in history.

The win marks his second trophy with Inter Miami, following their Leagues Cup triumph shortly after his arrival in 2023.

Goalkeeper Drake Callender played a key role in the victory, saving a crucial penalty in the 84th minute, while Luis Suarez also contributed with a goal for Miami.

With this victory, Inter Miami has earned home-field advantage throughout the MLS playoffs, starting with a best-of-three first-round series at the end of October.

If the team advances, they will host all remaining playoff matches, including the Eastern Conference semifinals and finals.
