Prominent business executive and socialite, Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, has been taken into custody by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to her legal representatives.

Her lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that Achimugu, who returned to Nigeria voluntarily from London, was picked up by EFCC officials at about 5 a.m. upon her arrival.

Earlier, Achimugu’s lawyers had notified the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday that their client intended to honour an invitation from the EFCC in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Ojukwu condemned the arrest, staying that it violated due process since she had arrived based on a court undertaking.

He further alleged that Achimugu had embarked on a hunger strike following her detention, describing her as “a prisoner of conscience.”

When contacted, EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, acknowledged that Achimugu was expected at the Commission’s office, adding that further details on the situation would be made available in due course.

It would be recalled that Achimugu had previously filed a fundamental human rights enforcement suit against the Nigeria Police, EFCC, DSS, ICPC, Nigerian Immigration Service, and the NSCDC, seeking to stop her arrest and detention.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/626/2025, had earlier ruled that Achimugu must present herself before the EFCC on April 29, 2025, as stated in her own court affidavit. The judge also directed that the EFCC return to court the following day to give a report on her appearance.

The EFCC had earlier declared Achimugu wanted, urging the public to assist with information regarding her whereabouts, over allegations tied to criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Achimugu, who serves as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Felak Concept Group, oversees a business portfolio spanning engineering, oil and gas, maritime, and ICT sectors.

As investigations continue, the allegations remain subject to court determination.
