Murder of Enugu Ogene Musician: Killer cop dismissed, remanded

The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed and charged Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph, implicated in the murder of Ogene musician Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, following a completed orderly room trial.

Command spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe confirmed that the trial found Inspector Ozonwanji guilty, leading to his dismissal and subsequent prosecution in line with the Police Act and Regulations 2020.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13, approved the dismissal and prosecution, ensuring that Ozonwanji was formally charged with murder on October 28, 2024, at the Enugu East Magistrate Court.

Following his arraignment, the Chief Magistrate ordered Ozonwanji’s remand at the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre.

The case is set for further proceedings on November 12, with the file forwarded to the Attorney General of Enugu State for judicial review.

This case reflects the force’s commitment to accountability and justice for victims of police misconduct.
