My past criticisms of Tinubu now irrelevant – Bwala

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy, has stated that all his past criticisms of the president and his administration no longer matter.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Bwala admitted that his previous remarks were simply part of his role as an opposition figure at the time.

“I criticised Tinubu’s election and administration in the past because I was in the opposition. The opposition’s work is to criticise the sitting government and hold them accountable. My views changed after I met the President, and he saw a need to appoint me,” he explained.

Bwala, who was formerly with the All Progressives Congress (APC), left the party in 2022 after it fielded a Muslim-Muslim ticket with Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima. He later joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign.

During the election period, he was a vocal critic of Tinubu, at one point likening his presidency to a “night of a thousand laughs” and questioning the legitimacy of his victory.

However, when asked whether he still stood by those statements, Bwala dismissed them, saying:

“They are not relevant.”

He added that since joining the presidency, he has been fully supportive of Tinubu and his policies.
