NAF airstrikes trigger escape of kidnap victims in Zamfara, Kebbi
Several kidnapped victims in Zamfara and Kebbi states have successfully escaped captivity amid chaos caused by intense airstrikes conducted by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on bandit hideouts.
Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed the operation’s success, detailing survivors’ accounts of their brave escape to freedom.
The NAF, as part of the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, launched Operation Farautar Mujiya on November 8. This high-impact campaign focused on disrupting bandit networks with precision air interdictions across Zamfara and Kebbi. The strikes were based on confirmed intelligence of increased terrorist activity in the area.
Using advanced surveillance and targeting systems, NAF aircraft executed surprise night raids on key bandit camps. Targets included a site near Sangeko, Zamfara, close to the Kebbi border, and the fortified base of notorious bandit leader Ado Aleiro near Asola Hill in Tsafe LGA.
“The strikes caused significant disruption to the bandits’ operations,” Air Commodore Akinboyewa stated, adding that numerous hostages seized the opportunity to escape amidst the ensuing chaos. “This air campaign has not only instilled fear in the bandits but has also brought a renewed sense of hope to the local residents.”
Operation Farautar Mujiya underscores the NAF’s agility and commitment to eliminating banditry, with more updates expected in the coming days as the Armed Forces intensify efforts to secure peace across Nigeria.
