The NBA has announced the postponement of Saturday’s scheduled home games for the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers due to wildfires currently engulfing parts of the city.

The Lakers were set to face the San Antonio Spurs, while the Clippers were scheduled to host the Charlotte Hornets.

In a statement released late Friday, the league confirmed that both games have been removed from the schedule and will be rescheduled for a later date.

“The NBA and the Clippers and Lakers organizations have been in communication with local officials in Los Angeles and Inglewood about the ongoing situation in the Los Angeles area and the game postponements ensure no resources will be diverted from the wildfire response efforts,” the league said in a statement.

The Lakers game against the Hornets due to be held on Thursday had already been postponed.

This decision comes as a precautionary measure to prioritize the safety of players, staff, and fans amid the challenging conditions caused by the wildfires.

Further updates on the rescheduled dates will be provided by the NBA in the coming days.
