Nigeria mourns with India over tragic Air India Plane crash

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow and extended its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria conveyed its solidarity with India during this period of national grief and immense loss.

“While initial reports suggest no Nigerian citizen was aboard the ill-fated flight, the Nigeria High Commission in New Delhi remains in close communication with Indian authorities to verify this information and offer consular support where necessary,” the statement read.
Nigeria also reaffirmed its commitment to global aviation safety and backed calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash to help prevent such devastating incidents in future.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner tragically went down in a residential area in Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff, claiming at least 265 lives, including passengers, crew, and residents on the ground. Only one passenger is believed to have survived the crash.
Rescue teams, supported by sniffer dogs, continued search operations into the early hours of Friday, as authorities confirmed that a medical staff hostel was among the affected structures.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as “heartbreaking beyond words,” while Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanan Desai confirmed that 265 bodies had been recovered from the scene, warning that the death toll could still rise.
Nigeria joins the global community in mourning this tragedy and extends prayers and sympathy to the families of the victims and the people of India.
