Nigerian gov declares Monday public holiday

The Nigerian government has declared Monday as a public holiday.

This announcement was made 15 seconds ago on July 5, 2024 by Aminu Aminu, with Agency News Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has proclaimed Monday a public holiday in observance of the commencement of the new Islamic calendar, 1st Muharram 1446AH, which occurs on Sunday, according to a Friday announcement from Birnin Kebbi.

The decision, conveyed through a statement by Auwal Manu-Dogondaji, the state’s Commissioner for Establishment, emphasizes the significance of the Islamic New Year. As a result, the public holiday has been shifted to Monday.

Manu-Dogondaji extended heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim community on the arrival of the new Islamic year. He encouraged continued prayers for the peace, security, and prosperity of Kebbi State and the nation at large.

“I convey the governor’s congratulations to the entire Muslim Ummah worldwide,” stated the commissioner.
