Nigerians donate N1.8m for protester to support son’s dreams
A protester in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations has received significant support from Nigerians, who raised N1.8 million to help his son’s dream of becoming a programmer.
Ogwu Chijioke joined the protests in Lagos to voice his concerns about the country’s difficult economic situation.
Speaking at the Lekki Toll Gate, he shared his struggles in supporting his 13-year-old son’s passion for programming.
“My son is a programmer, but I can’t even afford the data for him to continue learning or the tuition fees, which run into millions of naira,” Chijioke explained, holding his bicycle. “I can’t just sit and watch my son’s future fade away. I may have lost hope for myself, but I won’t let my son’s future be wasted.”
His heartfelt story quickly gained traction on social media after an interview with Channels Television. Influencer Morris Monye amplified Chijioke’s plight, urging people to help make his son’s dreams a reality.
“He’s lost hope for his own life but not for his son’s. This is why he is protesting,” Monye tweeted, along with a video of Chijioke. Soon after, Monye announced that N1.8 million was needed, and within 24 hours, the amount was raised through crowdfunding.
“N1.8 million raised. Money complete. This crowdfunding is now over. Thank you all for your benevolence,” Monye posted, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed.
This act of solidarity highlights the spirit of unity and support among Nigerians during challenging times.(CHANNELS)
